Lucknow: On April 28, 2025, a police team from Thana Rahimabad was on patrol in their designated area. Upon receiving information from a reliable source about the illegal felling of green trees in Sareya village, under the jurisdiction of Thana Rahimabad, District Lucknow, the police team reached the location.
At the scene, they found a red Mahindra & Mahindra company tractor without a number plate, attached to a blue trolley also without a number plate. The trolley was loaded with freshly cut logs of mango trees. A person operating the tractor was apprehended on the spot by Constable Manu Kumar.
Simultaneously, other police personnel moved towards the direction from where the sound of trees being cut was heard. Upon sensing the approaching police due to the sound of their footsteps, the individuals involved in cutting the trees took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene. The police team chased the fleeing individuals for a considerable distance, but no one could be apprehended.
At the location, the police found several freshly cut mango tree logs. Additionally, three motorcycles were found parked at the scene: a blue and black Splendor bearing registration number UP32DJ648, a black Splendor bearing registration number UP35BK9667, and a red and black Passion Pro bearing registration number UP32D07571. The police also recovered two thick salit (likely a type of wood-cutting tool), four balas (possibly axes or hatchets), and one axe.
The tractor driver, identified as Priyanshu Yadav, son of Rajkumar, approximately 22 years old, resident of Lakshman Kheda Majra Fatehnagar, Thana Malihabad, District Lucknow, was taken into police custody. A case has been registered at the police station under Crime No. 70/2025, under Sections 4/10 of the Uttar Pradesh Protection of Trees in Rural and Hill Areas Act, 1976, and Section 3/28 of the Uttar Pradesh Transit of Timber and Other Forest Produce Rules, 1978.
